SimpleAI Trial Companion Part 2: Leveraging Contract Playbooks
Automate your review using policy-based rules.
While the AI Assistant is great for specific questions, Playbooks are for systematic, full-document reviews. Playbooks allow you to standardize reviews against your company's specific policies. You can use pre-loaded standards or build your own bespoke negotiation logic.

1. The General Review (Zero Setup)
Best for: When you don't have a specific playbook ready but need a safety check.
- Navigate to the Review Tab and select General Review.
- Set Context: Tell the AI who you represent (e.g., "Customer") and list any specific concerns.
- Review Strategy: The AI will generate a summary of its proposed focus areas. You can iterate on this strategy (change risk appetite or priorities) before running it.
- Run: Click Start Review.
💡 Pro-tip: Always check "Highest Quality" mode. It takes slightly longer but yields significantly better, deeper results.
2. Standard Playbooks (Market Standards)
Best for: Quick reviews against industry norms.
- Go to the Standard Playbooks library.
- 🎖️ Choose from one of our 55+ expert-created playbooks (e.g., MSA, NDA, SaaS Agreement). These rules are based on Law Insider™ market data.
- Run: Select the playbook matching your document type to see how your contract compares to market standards.
3. Customizing Your Rules (Power User)
Best for: Tailoring the AI to your specific company policies.
You can duplicate a Standard Playbook or create a new rule from scratch. When editing a rule, use these powerful customization options:
- Set Response Type:
- ✏️ Redline: Choose this for objective fixes (e.g., changing "Net 60" to "Net 30"). The AI will rewrite the text.
- 🚩 Red Flag: Choose this for subjective issues. The AI alerts you to the risk but won't change the text.
- Add Fallbacks:
- Define your "Plan B." If your ideal position is rejected (e.g., 1x Liability Cap), the AI can suggest your pre-approved compromise (e.g., 2x Liability Cap).
- Add Guidance Notes:
- Add internal "sticky notes" for your team (e.g., "Escalate to CFO if this is missing"). These are not visible to the counterparty.
- Enable Comments:
- Automate your arguments. These are external comments that explain your redlines to the other party (e.g., "Our policy requires mutual renewal").
- Toggle Active Rules:
- Turn specific rules ON or OFF depending on the deal context (e.g., toggle off "GDPR" for a US-domestic deal) without deleting the rule entirely.
4. Custom Playbooks (Bespoke Policy)
Best for: Deeply aligning the AI with your specific organizational templates.
Option A: Build from Document (Template Extraction)
- Open your organization's "Gold Standard" template (e.g., your standard NDA).
- Select "Create Playbook From Current Document."
- The AI extracts the underlying principles from your template to create a playbook.
- Use this new playbook to review incoming third-party papers against your specific standards.
Option B: Build from Scratch
- Select "Build your own" to manually input specific clauses and rules.
